The Ambassador of Italy to Ecuador, Giovanni Davoli, spoke at a closed session of the security commission of the South American country's parliament.
The meeting was convened in the context of the serious security crisis facing Ecuador, whose rates of criminal violence have reached record levels in Latin America and the world, while the South American country has become the world's leading exporter of cocaine, placing it at the centre of transnational organised crime trafficking.
Davoli spoke of Italy's successful model in the fight against the mafia and reiterated Italy's commitment to the Ecuadorian authorities in this regard.
Italy is already present in Ecuador with a legal cooperation programme, much appreciated by the local authorities, and is willing to consider further training and consultancy initiatives
within the framework of legal diplomacy programmes coordinated by the Farnesina and carried out by the Italian-Latin American Institute, Iila.
