LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky woman won $100,000 after realizing she threw her winning ticket in the trash.

Kentucky Lottery officials said an Estill County woman added Power Play to her Powerball ticket to double her winnings then realized she accidently threw away her winning ticket.

The woman had never played Power Play before but thought she'd give it a shot. So she purchased three separate tickets at Ravenna Food Mart for the Feb. 15, 2025, drawing.

But when checking her tickets, she overlooked the winning ticket and threw it away. When she went back to Ravenna Food Mart to cash a different ticket, the clerk told her she had won $100,000.

"So, I went home and said 'I'm going to check the garbage,'" she said.

To her surprise she found the missing ticket and it turned out to be a winner," the woman said.

"There were two tickets stuck together, and I didn't realize it," she said.

The winning ticket matched four white ball winning numbers and the Powerball for $50,000 but the multiplier turned it to $100,000.

"I couldn't believe it," she said. "I screamed, and everyone thought something was wrong!"

The woman received a check for $72,000 after taxes and plans to sue it for a new car and personal expenses.
