What are the top ‘American Idol’ contestants from Massachusetts doing now?

Over the course of “American Idol” history, dozens of hopeful singers from Massachusetts have tried out for the show — but only a few have advanced to Hollywood, and even fewer have made it to the competition’s final rounds.

As the Season 23 of “American Idol” unfolds this spring, here’s a look back at seven local artists who represented the Massachusetts music scene during their time on air.

Ayla Brown (Top 16, Season 5)

After auditioning in Boston, Wrentham artist Ayla Brown persisted throughout Season 5, making it to the “top 16” round of the competition. Her rendition of “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield ultimately wasn’t strong enough to keep her in the running, and Brown was eliminated before reaching the final 12.

Brown (who’s also the daughter of former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown) has since released multiple records, although her latest effort is a podcast called “The Hangout with Jonathan and Ayla,” which Brown hosts with co-host Jonathan Wier.

Nicholas Pedro (Top 20, Season 6)

Nicholas Pedro initially began his “Idol” journey in Season 5, when he made it past the audition round, but withdrew from the competition in Hollywood over forgotten lyrics. In Season 6, the Taunton singer secured a second ticket to Hollywood – this time with a performance of “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra – and ultimately became one of the season’s top 20 contestants. He was eliminated the week that he performed “Fever” by Little Willie John.

Pedro does not appear to have released any new music within the last decade.

Ashley Rodriguez (Top 24, Season 9)

Ashley Rodriguez made enough of an impression on “Idol” judges and viewers that she was included in the top 24 contestants of Season 9 – and then she impressed Lana Del Rey. The Chelsea musician may have been eliminated after sharing her rendition of “Happy” by Leona Lewis, but Rodriguez has spent recent years as one of Del Rey’s dancers and backup vocalists.

Rodriguez now lives in Brooklyn, and has also performed with major artists like John Legend, Demi Lovato, and Nick Jonas.

Siobhan Magnus (Sixth Place, Season 9)

Siobhan Magnus’ audition wasn’t televised, but the Barnstable artist got plenty of screen time as the sixth place contestant on Season 9. She was ultimately eliminated after her performance of “Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain.

Following her time on “American Idol,” Magnus appeared on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and the “Late Show With David Letterman.” A handful of her singles are available to stream on Spotify, including her “Idol” performance of the Rolling Stones classic, “Paint It Black.”

Angie Miller (Third place, Season 12)

Angela “Angie” Miller is the highest-achieving Massachusetts “Idol” competitor to date. The Beverly singer auditioned with “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J, and advanced to the top 3, but was eliminated before making it to the Season 12 finale. Fellow finalist Candice Glover would ultimately win the season.

Miller now lives in Los Angeles and releases music under the name Zealyn, and most recently released an EP titled “Keep Your Chin Up, Kid.” She also founded the nonprofit Push-Up Bra LA, which aims to support women musicians through songwriting camps and showcases.

Colin Jamieson (Top 16, Season 19)

Boxford singer Colin Jamieson first impressed judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie with his cover of Billie Eilish’s song “Six Feet Under,” and ultimately secured his spot among the final 16 contestants before getting cut. One of his most memorable moments on the show was performing the Tori Kelly song “Hollow” with Kelly herself.

Jamieson now resides in Los Angeles, where he continues to release new music as a solo artist.

Beane (Top 12, Season 19)

Brennan “Beane” Hepler fared slightly better than fellow Massachusetts contestant Colin Jamieson in Season 9. After the Boston-based singer secured his ticket to Hollywood by covering VULFPECK, Hepler advanced to the top 12 contestants, due in part to the judges selecting him as a wildcard during the “final 16” round.

Hepler, who is deaf in one ear, still releases music under the name Beane, and will support the folk-pop trio Trousdale on their North American tour later this spring.
